West Virginia State Contractor License Regulations

Construction contractors must be licensed in the State of West Virginia. To find out if a contractor is licensed, West Virginia Division of Labor, or call (304) 558-7890 or (877) 558-5134. To obtain an applicaion  for a construction contractor's license, contact: West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board, or call (304) 558-7890. You will be required to show proof that you have unemployment and workers' compensation coverage in either your home state or West Virginia. West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner 1-888-879-9842, can assist you with the required insurance amounts necessary for compliance. Contractors must also post a wage bond unless they work only in residential construction, or have been doing construction work for at least five years before applying for a license.
A contractors license is $100 and is good for one year, this does not include the fees for the exams the Board requires one to pass to be licensed. You must pass a business and law exam as well as a trade exam to receive your license. Exams are given by
